The annual hike included a 1 and 2.8 mile walk at River Prairie Park
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Many gathered at River Prairie Park in Altoona Tuesday night in an effort to help children experiencing homelessness.
The 21st annual Hike for the Homeless included a 1 and 2.8 mile walk, along with entertainment and raffles.
Family Promise of Chippewa Valley helps families with children experiencing homelessness by providing them with clean, safe, short-term shelter.
Organizers say the success of this event allows family promise to keep their doors open.
“What I hope is that more people are aware,” said Bill Callaghan with the Beacon House. “Through support, we need to generate more funds for the Beacon House. Right now the demand is greater than the funds that we generate so there’s always a demand for more help.”
The hike is the largest event for family promise of the Chippewa Valley, and raises about 5% of their annual budget.
Families may stay at the Beacon House for up to 30 days. During their stay, they work with in-house case managers to assess and remove hurdles that contribute to homelessness.
