WOODFORD CO., Ky. (WKYT) – Captain Logan Forrest, recently returned from a nine-month deployment in the Middle East, is now facing an unimaginable challenge after a tragic family vacation.

Just over a month after his homecoming, Logan and his three-year-old daughter, Emerson “Emmie” Forrest, suffered a severe hiking accident on July 3rd in Gatlinburg. Emmie slipped on a rock, and in a desperate attempt to save her, Logan also fell. Both tumbled down a 30-foot cliff, losing consciousness upon impact.

Logan sustained multiple injuries, including two broken ribs and a fractured skull. Emmie suffered significant brain damage and is only now beginning to wake up. Woodford County Judge-Executive James Kay, a family friend, described her recovery as miraculous.

“It’s unimaginable. I can’t fathom what they’re enduring,” said Kay. “But from speaking with Logan, his strength and faith in God are evident.”

The Forrest family is currently in a Tennessee hospital, where Logan and his wife Taylor have expressed their profound gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers from their community.

“Logan understands that our community excels in supporting families in distress,” Kay continued. “The response of love and encouragement was expected, yet deeply appreciated.”

While Emmie’s recovery journey is just beginning, the Forrest family is bolstered by a community eager to provide support and prayers, ensuring they are not alone in their time of need.
