The Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride returned this year, drawing teams and individual cyclists to participate in its renowned annual event. Cyclists, clad in vibrant Lycra and jerseys, gathered early on July 7 at Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground to embark on a day of fundraising for Macmillan cancer support.
Participants had the option to choose from three challenging routes, each offering a unique journey through Dorset’s picturesque landscapes. The routes spanned distances of 38 miles, 48 miles, and a demanding 63 miles, catering to cyclists of varying abilities and preferences.
The shortest route, covering 38 miles, took cyclists through the scenic Stour Valley, passing through Blandford and Winterborne Stickland before stopping for well-deserved refreshments at Winterborne Kingston. The route continued along the valley to Anderson, where cyclists crossed the A31, looping back through Morden and concluding at Lytchett Matravers.
For those seeking a more extensive challenge, the 63-mile route pushed cyclists further into Dorset’s countryside, extending as far as Puddletown, Bere Regis, and Milborne St. Andrew. Cyclists on this route rejoined the 48-mile participants in Milton Abbas, adding an extra layer of endurance and scenery to their ride.
Throughout the day, cyclists were cheered on as they navigated the routes, passing through picturesque villages and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow participants. The event not only celebrated the spirit of cycling but also raised crucial funds for Macmillan cancer support, contributing to the ongoing efforts in the fight against cancer.
The Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride continues to be a highlight on the local calendar, combining sport with philanthropy, and drawing participants and supporters alike to support a noble cause.
