Vingegaard encountered misfortune on the third gravel sector of the day, suffering a puncture. Quick to react, teammate Jan Tratnik selflessly provided his bike, allowing Vingegaard to swiftly resume his pursuit. Supported by teammates Wout van Aert, Christophe Laporte, and Matteo Jorgenson, Vingegaard remained protected from the relentless attacks, including a notable move from Tadej Pogacar on the treacherous French roads.
Despite the setbacks, Vingegaard maintained pace with the main contenders and safely crossed the finish line within the same time, a relief evident in his post-race remarks. “I’m pleased to have stayed with the leaders despite the challenges today,” Vingegaard expressed gratitude for his team’s solidarity, particularly Jan Tratnik’s critical assistance.
