Visma-Lease a Bike Innovates with Rolling Control Room for Tour de France

by Alice

Visma-Lease a Bike is poised to revolutionize data collection during the Tour de France with the introduction of a mobile control room, aimed at enhancing real-time decision-making and performance analysis for the team’s bid to secure their third consecutive yellow jersey.

The team plans to deploy a specially equipped van filled with cutting-edge technology and equipment to analyze a wide array of data sources, including television footage, weather conditions, and race radio transmissions. This initiative marks a significant step forward in leveraging digital solutions to support strategic decisions on the road, led by two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard.

“We are excited about our collaboration with innovative partners to develop the Control Room, which will enable us to gather and analyze live data more comprehensively, providing enhanced insights into the race,” stated Mathieu Heijboer, the team’s head of performance. “This capability will directly support our coaches in making faster, more informed tactical decisions.”

This season, the Control Room promises to be particularly valuable following Vingegaard’s recovery from injuries sustained in April, which initially cast doubt on his participation after a crash in the Itzulia Basque Country left him with broken ribs, a collarbone fracture, and a punctured lung. Despite these setbacks, Vingegaard’s confirmed presence at the starting line underscores his determination, though he faces a formidable challenge from Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), widely considered the race favorite.

Visma-Lease a Bike plans to activate the control room from the outset of the Tour de France, beginning with the first stage departing from Florence on June 29. The initiative, made possible through collaboration with main sponsor Visma, a software company, and gaming group BetCity, underscores a commitment to pushing boundaries in elite cycling.

“We are excited to continue providing software expertise through the Control Room to optimize Team Visma-Lease a Bike’s performance,” said Visma CEO Merete Hverven. “This collaboration exemplifies how digital solutions can elevate decision-making and enhance performance not only in business and society but also in sports.”

In addition to their technological advancements, Visma-Lease a Bike has demonstrated a willingness to embrace innovative approaches this season, exemplified by their new time trial helmets featuring advanced aerodynamic designs.

The team’s proactive adoption of these innovations underscores their commitment to staying at the forefront of elite cycling, poised to make significant strides in this year’s Tour de France.
