A new outdoor adventure awaits in the North Okanagan as the Upper BX Creek Trail near Silver Star Mountain officially opened this week. Spanning 4.9 kilometres, the trail is an extension of the BX Creek Trail system, connecting Sovereign Lake Road to Forsberg Road.
Despite its picturesque appeal, the trail poses a challenge with a 540-metre elevation change, making it ideal for experienced mountain bikers, hikers, and trail runners, according to the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO).
“This remote trail demands preparation due to its rugged terrain and limited cell service,” emphasized the RDNO, urging users to be adequately equipped for the journey.
Access to the trail is available from the upper trailhead located off Silver Star Road, with plans underway for an additional parking lot at Forsberg Road pending funding approval.
Amidst the excitement, trail users are reminded by the RDNO to practice courteous behavior and adhere to trail etiquette during their outings.
Bob Fleming, spokesperson for RDNO, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s completion under its $700,000 budget. “We are delighted to introduce this enhanced trail to both locals and visitors,” Fleming remarked. “The Upper BX Creek Trail marks a significant stride toward our vision of a continuous trail from Silver Star to Swan Lake.”
Outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to explore and enjoy this newest addition to the region’s vibrant trail network, celebrating the natural beauty and recreational opportunities it offers.
