Glendale, WI – A new multi-use trail is set to debut at Kletzsch Park, catering to both mountain bikers and hikers amidst the burgeoning outdoor community in the Milwaukee area.

Developed over three years through collaboration between Milwaukee County Parks, the Department of Natural Resources, and Metro Mountain Bikers, the trail marks a milestone for outdoor recreation in the region. Craig Ruhland, a trail leader, described the trail as a refreshing escape from daily routines, offering a dynamic alternative to the flat Oak Leaf Trail. He noted its suitability for riders of varying skill levels, underscoring that basic equipment like a well-maintained bike and helmet are sufficient to enjoy the experience.

The trail comprises two loops: the Bog Loop, winding through Kletzsch Park’s scenic bog with maple tree vistas, and the River Glen Loop, which navigates the park’s riverside with twists and turns that promise an engaging ride.

Constructed entirely by around 200 volunteers using hand tools, the trail stands as a testament to community spirit and collaboration. Ruhland praised the dedication of volunteers, many of whom were novices in trail building, emphasizing their pivotal role in bringing the project to fruition.

Looking ahead, Metro Mountain Bikers aims to explore additional locations for future trails, driven by the growing popularity of youth mountain biking. Ruhland highlighted the enthusiasm among local youth, citing the Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League’s significant presence in the state and underscoring the need for more accessible trails within urban areas like Milwaukee County.

With the trail accommodating both bikers and hikers, Ruhland stressed the importance of mutual respect and awareness among users to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
