Clackamas County is inviting children and families to the second annual Youth Bike Safety Day on Saturday, June 15. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the west parking lot of the Clackamas Community College Harmony Campus, located at 7738 Harmony Road, Milwaukie.
This free event, organized by Clackamas County Safe Routes to School, will feature a variety of activities focused on bicycle safety. Attendees can participate in safety skills courses, receive program and transportation safety information, get their bicycles checked for maintenance, and enjoy a bike decorating station. Additionally, Safety Street will offer children the opportunity to practice car safety with crossing signs, speed limits, and traffic simulations.
Pre-registration is not required; families can drop by at any time during the event. Free bike accessories, including helmets, lights, bells, and bags, will be distributed while supplies last.
The Clackamas County Safe Routes to School program aims to increase the number of students biking and walking to school by making routes safer. The program collaborates with community members, schools, and other organizations to educate children on safe walking and biking practices. It also supports engineering improvements like crosswalks, signage, and sidewalks around schools.
Youth Bike Safety Day is co-sponsored by The Street Trust, an organization that advocates for transportation options prioritizing safety, accessibility, equity, and climate justice in the Portland Metro Region.
