On May 16, thousands of cyclists took to the streets to participate in SANDAG’s Bike Anywhere Day. With more than 100 pit stops scattered across the region, a total of 9,020 visits were recorded, attracting riders from Del Mar, Solana Beach, and along Carmel Valley’s SR 56 Bike Path.
One popular pit stop, sponsored by Jimbo’s, located near Carmel Creek Road on the bike path, saw a steady stream of participants, including bike commuters, recreational riders, and schoolchildren making their way to school.
Notable attendees at various pit stops included SANDAG board member and Solana Beach Deputy Mayor Jewel Edson, who visited the pit stop at San Diego Electric Bike on the 101, and Del Mar Deputy Mayor Terry Gaasterland, along with SANDAG board member, who was present at Coast Boulevard for the city of Del Mar’s pit stop.
Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming turnout, SANDAG and San Diego County Supervisor Chairwoman Nora Vargas remarked in a news release, “I want to thank the thousands of people who joined us for Bike Anywhere Day. This incredible, annual event inspires our communities to see biking as a convenient, fun, and healthy way for everyday travel. Biking plays a big role in enhancing mobility, reducing air pollution, alleviating traffic, and improving the overall health of our communities.”
