KATHMANDU, April 20: The aspiration to conquer Mount Everest remains fervent as a total of 352 climbers have successfully obtained permission to embark on the formidable journey this year.
The Department of Tourism (DoT) disclosed that this diverse group comprises 65 women and 287 men, representing 33 climbing teams. Remarkably, participants hailing from 55 different countries are set to register their presence on the world’s highest peak.
Rakesh Gurung, Director of the Adventure Tourism and Mountaineering Branch at the DoT, expressed optimism regarding the escalating interest in scaling Mount Everest. He anticipates that the final tally of climbers will surpass the 400 mark this season.
Notably, last year witnessed a record-breaking number of 478 climbers acquiring permits for the expedition. Currently, the revenue generated from climbing permits for various mountains, including Mount Everest, stands at an impressive Rs 564.4 million.
