Katie Archibald of Great Britain clinched the omnium title on the third day of the Track Nations Cup held in Canada, marking her third gold medal triumph at the event.
The 30-year-old cyclist dominated the competition by securing victories in the scratch, tempo, and elimination races, amassing a perfect score of 120 points. She further solidified her lead by garnering 11 additional points in the points race.
Archibald, a three-time Olympic medalist, finished a remarkable 20 points ahead of Italy’s Letizia Paternoster, who secured the second position.
Earlier in the tournament, Archibald had triumphed in the team pursuit and madison events on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Despite Archibald’s stellar performance, British cyclists Mark Stewart and Oliver Wood settled for seventh place in the madison event, where Belgian duo Lindsay de Vylder and Robbe Ghys clinched the gold medal.
In the men’s sprint, Harrie Lavreysen of the Netherlands emerged victorious, while Britain’s Hamish Turnbull and Joseph Trueman faced elimination in the 1/8 finals.
Meanwhile, Ellesse Andrews of New Zealand claimed victory in the women’s keirin, where British cyclists did not participate.
The Track Nations Cup event in Milton served as the concluding round of the 2024 series and represented the final opportunity for Great Britain’s track cyclists to showcase their talents on the velodrome before the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
