In a recent announcement, the Manitoba government has declared a freeze on provincial park pass and camping fees for the upcoming season. This decision comes as a relief to residents and visitors alike, amidst previous plans for fee increases.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Tracy Schmidt disclosed that the province had originally intended to implement fee hikes due to a contract agreement with an American-based service provider for the administration of the park pass program. However, with $46 million allocated in Manitoba’s 2024 budget, such increases are deemed unnecessary.
Furthermore, Minister Schmidt highlighted the government’s commitment to providing opportunities for free access to provincial parks on specific dates throughout the year. Notable among these are June 7 to 9, July 15 to 21, and Aug. 30 to Sept. 2. Additionally, attendees can enjoy free entry from Feb. 1 to 28 in the upcoming year.
The decision to freeze fees and offer free park entry reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing accessibility to Manitoba’s natural landscapes, fostering outdoor recreation, and encouraging tourism within the province.
