As spring unfolds its warmth and sunshine, outdoor enthusiasts in McDuffie County find a reason to rejoice as Big Hart Campground partners with the Department of Natural Resources to kick off the camping season with a bang.
Matthew C. Reid, the County Campground Manager, expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming festivities, stating, “It’s the grand opening of the beach area pavilion, and it also allows us to showcase what we have done within the park so people can actually take a look at it.” He added, “During the winter months, it will be open on the weekends, so people can take advantage of our picnic areas and still grill out, which is something we have not done before.”
The event promises a weekend packed with outdoor activities catering to individuals of all ages. From fishing excursions to tantalizing offerings from food trucks, attendees can expect a diverse range of entertainment. Additionally, an animal adoption event will be held, adding a compassionate touch to the festivities.
Educator Kimberly Clements from the McDuffie Environmental Education Center, in collaboration with the Georgia DNR, shared details about a unique activity planned for children. “Our Bigfoot event is going to be a hit. The kids will learn about tracks, and they’ll make some Plaster Paris tracks of common animals,” Clements explained. “Then we are going to take a hike and hopefully see Bigfoot. He’s been seen in the area, and then we’ll have marshmallows by the fire afterwards.”
Campers, both regulars and newcomers, expressed their excitement about the event. Sarah Bohler, a frequent visitor, shared her anticipation, saying, “We are here all the time, and we are looking forward to having a lot of people here and a lot of friends and family.” Similarly, Cindy Peebles, another camper, expressed delight at the unexpected surprise, stating, “We didn’t actually know what was going on today, so we found out and were like, oh yeah, let’s all go.”
As the camping season officially commences, Big Hart Campground will welcome visitors seven days a week. Entry to the campground is priced at $5 per car, ensuring accessible enjoyment of the outdoor amenities.
With a plethora of activities and amenities awaiting visitors, Big Hart Campground stands ready to offer memorable experiences amid the natural splendor of McDuffie County.
