A Dutch cyclist has tragically passed away after suffering a heart attack during the We Ride Flanders event, an amateur cycling race in Belgium. The news was reported by NOS. Despite immediate medical intervention, the cyclist could not be saved, according to event officials.
The incident occurred during the race, which had nearly 15,000 participants, including many cyclists from the Netherlands, France, the UK, and Germany. The victim collapsed during the ride, prompting swift action from medical teams, who performed resuscitation efforts at the scene. However, despite their best efforts, the cyclist died.
In a separate incident, a French cyclist also lost his life after falling ill during the event. After being airlifted to the hospital and receiving medical treatment, he too succumbed to his condition. A third participant who experienced health issues was successfully revived.
The We Ride Flanders event, which offers a range of race distances from 80 kilometers to 229 kilometers, is held in advance of the prestigious Ronde van Vlaanderen. The race, which runs between Brugge and Oudenaarde, is a highly anticipated occasion, allowing amateur cyclists to test their endurance on the same challenging route used by professional riders.
