The 25th Annual Rincon Classic is set to make waves this Presidents’ Day weekend, drawing surfers of all skill levels to the iconic Queen of the Coast.
Rincon, known for its pristine left-hand point breaks, is rarely seen with just six surfers in the lineup. While it may have been common in the late 1950s, such a sight is almost unheard of today. But the Rincon Classic, a highly anticipated community event, is an exception. Despite the competitive atmosphere, this surf competition stands out in California’s surf scene. With 260 participants across 12 divisions, it’s one of the most prestigious events in the state. And the allure of Rincon itself—often surfed by only a handful of riders—makes it a coveted experience for competitors.
The event’s 25th edition is confirmed for Presidents’ Day weekend, and forecasts predict a 5-foot, 13-second west swell rolling in on Saturday. While the swell won’t be massive, conditions should be perfect for some thrilling heats. Surf enthusiasts can follow all the event updates and stream it live online.
From young groms to seasoned veterans, the Rincon Classic offers something for every surfer (as long as they hail from the 805 area code). Last year, Parker Coffin successfully defended his title, but he’s absent from this year’s heat draw. The 2025 Rincon Brewery Pro Division will feature top surfers, including regional standouts Conner Coffin, Eithan Osborne, Micky Clarke, Nathaniel Curran, Dimitri Poulos, and three-time world champion Tom Curren. Don’t overlook seven-time event winner Kilian Garland, either.
With divisions for Groms, Gremlins, Open Men, Open Women, Wahine, Legends, and Super Legends, the competition guarantees plenty of action. Last year, Walter Cerny claimed the Grand Master title, narrowly defeating Channel Islands head shaper Britt Merrick. Will Channel Islands take back the title this year, or will an underdog from the 805 area code make history? The answer will unfold this weekend at the one and only Rincon Classic.
