The 36th edition of the Giro d’Italia Women, set to take place from July 6-13, 2025, will feature three challenging summit finishes over its eight-stage route. The race, which covers 939.6 kilometers across northern Italy, will also tackle 14,000 meters of elevation.
The event kicks off in Bergamo on July 6 with an individual time trial, a format that organizers RCS Sport have used for the past two years, after previously opening the race with team time trials.
The first summit finish will come early, on day two, with riders ascending the long and gradual climb to Aprica. The following day, the peloton will reach the highest point of the race at the Cima Alfonsina Strada, located in the Passo Tonale, before descending to the finish line in Trento.
Stage three will see riders climb to Pianezze, while the penultimate stage features the final mountain top finish at Monte Nerone in the Umbrian Apennines. The final stage, held on the challenging Imola motor racing circuit, will determine the winner.
Elisa Longo Borghini, who claimed her first Giro d’Italia Women title in 2024 with Lidl-Trek, expressed enthusiasm for the 2025 route. “It’s open to many tactics and race scenarios, which suit my abilities well,” she said. “I’m especially excited about the final stage in Imola. I lost the world title there in 2020 and I’m eager to make up for that. I hope to be in top form and give my best performance.”
Longo Borghini’s victory in 2024 saw her finish 21 seconds ahead of world champion Lotte Kopecky, and she aims to build on that success for the 2025 race.
The route announcement for the Giro d’Italia Women was made alongside the presentation of the 108th Giro d’Italia for men, which will begin in Albania in May 2025. Full details of the 2025 women’s route are available below.
