Nalgonda: Telangana’s Tourism Minister, Jupally Krishna Rao, revealed plans on Friday to develop a star hotel and water sports facilities at Nagarjunasagar through a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The announcement came during his visit to Buddhavanam, where he was accompanied by Kamlesh D. Patel (Daaji), founder and president of the Sri Ramachandra Mission.
During the visit, Minister Krishna Rao took the opportunity to inspect the arrangements at Buddhavanam, a Buddhist theme park, which has already been attracting significant numbers of visitors, particularly Buddhists from across Asia. The minister expressed confidence that the introduction of new tourism infrastructure would further boost visitor numbers to the site.
“We are focused on transforming Nagarjunasagar into one of the leading tourist destinations in the country. To achieve this, we will build a star hotel near Buddhavanam and establish water sports facilities at Nagarjunasagar under a PPP model,” said Krishna Rao.
Local MLA, Kunduru Jayaveer, also emphasized the tourism potential of the region, highlighting its scenic beauty and geographical advantages. He pointed out that the Krishna River, which flows through the district, is surrounded by forests and hills, offering a unique environment for tourism development.
In addition to discussing the new tourism projects, the minister sought information on available government land in the area. He directed officials to submit a report regarding open spaces in Vijaya Vihar and Buddhavanam, which could be utilized for the proposed developments.
The meeting also included Nyalakonda Prakash Reddy, managing director of the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation, and Buddhist consultant E. Siva Nagi Reddy, who offered their input on the project.
The planned upgrades are expected to significantly enhance the tourism infrastructure at Nagarjunasagar, making it a key destination for both domestic and international visitors.
