Killington, VT – Killington Resort, the largest ski and snowboard destination in Eastern North America, marked the end of its 2024 mountain biking season on Sunday, October 27, after hosting over 80 days of lift-accessed downhill biking. The season saw the introduction of a new learning zone on Snowshed and featured targeted skills clinics for adults conducted by the Mountain Sports School. The resort also continued its popular women’s “Divas of Dirt” rides, attracting more than 600 athletes and 7,000 fans globally for the largest Fox US Open of Mountain Biking to date, underscoring the growing popularity of the sport.
Building on this success, the resort plans to expand its trail system in summer 2025 as part of a $30 million investment following its new independent ownership. The permitting process is currently underway with the State of Vermont for the development of a new trail serviced by the Ramshead Express Quad, with an estimated budget of $300,000.
The new trail will begin at the top of Ramshead and extend down the mountain, primarily along the left side of Blue Magic. Spanning over two miles, the trail will feature an intermediate pitch, rated blue (more difficult), and will consist mostly of single track with a narrower feel compared to Blue Magic. It will intersect with Blue Magic at various points, allowing riders to switch between trails and create varied experiences during their rides. The design will incorporate natural terrain to include jumps, step-downs, and wooden features such as berms and diving boards.
“The goal is to provide more options for riders to mix and match sections of different trails, adding variety to that side of the Bike Park,” said Taylor Zink, Bike Park manager. “We hope to break ground in the spring and have some sections of the new trail open before the end of the season. There are many opportunities for future trail expansion, and it’s very exciting.”
