KOTA KINABALU, Sabah Parks has issued a critical warning for hikers on Mount Kinabalu to exercise caution due to adverse weather conditions affecting the region.
In a recent Facebook update, Julaimin Kamin, manager of the Panalaban substation, reported that ongoing heavy rainfall and strong winds have led to several natural hazards along the summit trail. Specifically, a tree has fallen at both KM1.6 and KM0.6, and a landslide has occurred at KM3.8.
Julaimin emphasized the importance of vigilance for all climbers, mountain guides, porters, and staff navigating the summit trail. He urged individuals to remain alert during both ascent and descent to ensure their safety.
To address these challenges, Sabah Parks will continue monitoring the situation and conducting necessary maintenance work, especially during this period of inclement weather. Search and Rescue teams are also on heightened alert for any potential incidents.
As the forecast indicates that heavy rain and strong winds are expected to persist throughout the week, authorities advise all individuals in the area to stay informed and prioritize safety.
