PORT-OF-SPAIN – Colombian cyclist Mateo Garcia emerged victorious in the 30-lap open event at the 10th edition of the Cycling on the Avenue on Wednesday. The race, held in the heart of Port-of-Spain, saw top competitors from across the Americas.
Garcia, who recently placed second in the UCI World Championship Road Race in Switzerland, outpaced his rivals to claim the top spot. Mexico’s Eder Fraye secured second place, while Lucas Bourgoyne from the United States rounded out the podium in third.
Local cyclists also put on a strong showing. Tariq Woods of Evolution Academy finished in fourth place, closely followed by Adam Alexander of the Raiders, who came in fifth.
Fraye’s second-place finish comes after his victory in the Tobago International Cycling Classic last week.
Garcia, currently racing for Foundation Cycling New York, joined the team in 2024. His past affiliations include CRCA/Foundation Elite Team, Efapel, and EP-UNE-Area Metropolitana. The Colombian standout also competed in the Tour of Tobago last week, where he placed second in Stage 1, from Mount Irvine to Grange Bay, and fifth in Stage 2, from Milford Road to Shaw Park.
