More than 100 women from across Ohio gathered at Mohican State Park Lodge & Conference Center last month for the 10th annual Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure, an event organized by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
The event offered participants a unique opportunity to develop outdoor skills, such as boating, fishing, shooting sports, and engaging in nature-based programs. Designed for women aged 16 and older, the Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure aims to create a welcoming, pressure-free environment where participants can try new activities.
Participants explored various outdoor experiences, including kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, archery, and sustainable living. The scenic setting of Mohican State Park added to the appeal, giving attendees a chance to appreciate the natural beauty of one of Ohio’s most treasured parks.
“We look forward to hosting this event every year because it’s a fantastic opportunity for women to enjoy the outdoors and all that Ohio has to offer,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “The women who join us for the weekend create lasting memories and often try something they’ve never done before.”
The event, hosted by ODNR’s Division of Parks and Watercraft, received support from experts across other ODNR divisions, including Forestry, Natural Areas and Preserves, Wildlife, and Geological Survey. Participants attended hands-on sessions covering a variety of activities, such as fishing, hiking, shotgun and rifle basics, stream quality monitoring, and identifying wild edibles.
A special dinner at nearby Malabar Farm State Park allowed participants to immerse themselves even further in Ohio’s outdoor heritage.
As the Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure continues to grow in popularity, organizers anticipate high demand for next year’s event. Details on registration will be announced soon, and those interested are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spot for the next adventure.
