EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Authorities have identified the 19-year-old victim of a motorcycle crash in East El Paso that occurred last week. The deceased has been named as Hugo Alexis Montiel-Sanchez.
The accident took place on September 18 at approximately 8 p.m. at the intersection of Gateway East and Zaragoza, close to the Tony Lama Factory.
According to police reports, for reasons that remain unclear, Montiel-Sanchez accelerated significantly, leading to him traveling at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle veered off the road, entering the landscaped area adjacent to the roadway.
As a result of the crash, Montiel-Sanchez was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained severe injuries. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators have indicated that speed is believed to be a significant factor in this tragic incident. This crash marks the 45th traffic fatality in the area this year, a decrease from 55 fatalities reported in 2023.
