Singapore Grand Prix: Norris wins, Zhou Guanyu beats Bottas

by Alice

Lando Norris won his first career Grand Prix with an outstanding performance in the Singapore Grand Prix and closed the gap with Max Verstappen, the leader of the drivers’ championship.

At the start of the race, Norris successfully overcame several start problems this season and entered Turn 1 in the lead. After the DRS was activated on the second lap, his lead quickly increased to more than one second. Although Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc made mistakes at Turn 1, the first lap was completed smoothly.

The drivers focused on tire management, especially Lewis Hamilton, who started on soft tires and failed to change the situation. Norris extended his lead over Verstappen to 15.5 seconds in the first 20 laps.

However, on lap 29, Norris made a mistake before Turn 14 and almost hit the wall. Although he reported contact with the guardrail, no damage was found after the pit inspection and he remained in the lead after switching to hard tires.

In the following races, Norris did not slow down and eventually won the victory with a huge advantage of 22 seconds, becoming the champion of Marina Bay. Verstappen failed to keep up with his pace and only finished second, while Hamilton performed poorly after changing tires on the 17th lap and finally ranked only sixth.

Among many drivers, Piastre pitted at the latest on the 38th lap and quickly surpassed the Mercedes car to get third place. Russell withstood the pressure of Leclerc and finished fourth. Carlos Sainz was the only driver who was not surpassed by Norris, with a gap of 96 seconds.

Zhou Guanyu performed well in the race, surpassing Bottas and staying in the lead, and finally successfully completed the race, ensuring the winning streak of the season. Although Kevin Magnussen of Haas and Albon of Williams failed to finish, this race became the first race in the history of the Singapore Grand Prix without a safety car.

With the end of the race, Norris is currently 52 points behind Verstappen, while McLaren leads Red Bull by 41 points in the team points, and the championship competition will become more and more intense.
