This morning, another instance of wild camping was reported in Madeira. A couple of tourists were discovered sleeping in the Levada do Norte crossing area, near Caminho das Ginjas.
A guide, who was leading a group of tourists in the area, found the tent set up on the opposite side of Casa dos Levadeiros do Folhadal. The placement of the tent in this busy crossing area obstructed the path for other hikers, as shown in the accompanying image.
DIÁRIO has previously highlighted a rising trend of tourists camping in unauthorized and unsuitable locations across Madeira’s mountains. Such activities not only jeopardize the safety of those involved but also pose risks to the environment.
