The Surf Coast community is set to make a splash with the expansion of its highly anticipated aquatic centre, thanks to a significant funding boost from the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence, announced additional funding for the Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre’s Stage 2, under the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program. The new enhancements will serve the region’s growing population, including the Armstrong Creek community, and cement Torquay’s reputation as a hub for water sports and recreation.
The extra funding will add a range of new facilities to the project, including a dedicated learn-to-swim pool, a splash park, spa, sauna, and steam room. New change rooms will also be part of the additions, enhancing the experience for both locals and visitors.
Stage 1 of the project is already set to deliver a 25-metre indoor pool for lap swimming and squads, a warm-water pool for aqua aerobics, hydrotherapy, and general water play. The centre will also feature a gym, spaces for exercise classes, allied health suites, and a café.
This project is one of two major developments on the Surf Coast being funded through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, alongside a new hockey facility at Banyul-Warri Fields. Since 2014, the Labor Government has invested a record $45 billion into regional projects and programs, including over $2.3 billion for sport and active recreation infrastructure across Victoria.
Programs like the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program aim to enhance regional communities like Torquay, making them more desirable places to live, work, and visit. The government’s investments are attracting more visitors and boosting local businesses.
Construction on the Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre is expected to begin later this year, with completion slated for 2026.
