RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Sturgis has unveiled an exciting new addition to its outdoor recreation offerings with the launch of a downhill mountain bike trail in collaboration with Black Hills Trails. Located on the Barry Stadium property near the Fort Meade softball fields east of Sturgis, the new Flow Trail expands upon the already renowned trail system in the Black Hills area.
Ruth Kopp, a councilwoman for the City of Sturgis and avid mountain bike enthusiast, expressed enthusiasm about the new trail, emphasizing its enhancement of the local biking community. “The trail system we have here is already state-of-the-art, among the best in its class. The addition of the downhill trail attracts even more people to our mountain biking community,” Kopp remarked.
Wednesday night saw the inaugural use of the Flow Trail during the city’s Music on Main Mountain Bike Race Series. Participants, including riders from downtown Sturgis’s rally point, were among the first to experience the new trail as part of their race course.
Rick Bush, Sturgis’s director of public works, highlighted the significance of the Flow Trail’s debut. “Tonight’s race featured the flow track as a central element for the first time. We’re eager to gauge public response and see how well it performs,” Bush commented.
Anticipated to appeal to biking enthusiasts of all skill levels, the Flow Trail promises an exhilarating experience for adrenaline seekers. “It offers a thrilling downhill ride that’s sure to excite adrenaline junkies,” Kopp added, likening the experience to “soaring down a mountainside like a bird.”
Bush emphasized that the Flow Trail project not only enhances the existing trail network but also provides a new recreational option on the Barry Stadium property, further enriching Sturgis’s outdoor offerings.
