Denver Police Department is set to facilitate bike registration at multiple sites across the city in celebration of Bike to Work Day on June 26th. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with 529 Garage, aims to bolster efforts in preventing bicycle theft, aiding in the recovery of lost or stolen bikes, and supporting investigations related to bike theft.
Participants in the registration process will document essential details such as their bike’s serial number, make, model, and color. This information is crucial for easier identification and swift return of bikes in case of loss or theft. Volunteers will be stationed at five designated locations throughout Denver on Wednesday morning to assist and encourage bike owners to register:
- Denver Zoo, 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
- REI at 1416 Platte St., 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Cherry Creek Trail (South University Blvd. and Cherry Creek North Dr.), 6:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- East 29th Avenue Town Center (East 29th Ave. and North Roslyn St.), 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- Skyline Park (16th St. and Arapahoe St.), 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
According to Denver Police, over 400 recovered bikes in 2022 could not be reunited with their owners due to lack of registration. To deter theft and assist in recovery efforts, registrants will receive a 529 Shield decal, designed to signal to potential thieves that the bike is registered and aid law enforcement in identifying stolen bikes.
For those unable to attend in person, bike registration can also be completed for free through the DPD website or the 529 Garage app. This accessible registration process underscores the city’s commitment to enhancing bike security and promoting a safer cycling environment.
This initiative coincides with Denver’s ongoing efforts to support sustainable transportation options and foster community engagement around cycling.
