Cook County, Minn. (KBJR/Gray News) – A young boy sustained injuries after a tree fell on his tent during a camping trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred Tuesday evening as storms moved through the region. The Cook County Sheriff reported that the 9-year-old boy was sleeping in his tent when a tree came crashing down due to the severe weather.
Located in the northernmost part of Minnesota, near the Canadian border, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness encompasses over 1 million acres of rugged, remote forest, as described by the U.S. Forest Service.
Rescue efforts were challenging due to the remote location. Emergency crews had to navigate the difficult terrain to reach the boy’s campsite, finally arriving at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
The boy was subsequently transported to a hospital. The extent of his injuries has not yet been disclosed.
Further details about the incident are currently unavailable.
