Tesla has capitalized on the growing trend of car camping with the introduction of an official air mattress tailored for its 2024 Model Y SUV. The new accessory, priced at $225 USD (approximately $340 AUD), quickly sold out in the North American market shortly after its launch.
Designed specifically to fit snugly into the Model Y cabin with the rear seats folded flat, the air mattress features a custom shape that complements the SUV’s interior trim. It is compatible with both the five- and seven-seat configurations available in other markets. The mattress itself is crafted from three-inch-thick high-density foam encased in a waterproof and durable polyester jacket.
Included in the purchase are essential accessories such as a carry bag, an air pump, and two repair patches. When not in use, the mattress can be deflated and conveniently stored in the rear storage area beneath the floor.
Tesla already offers a range of accessories for Australian customers, including rear and front plastic boot liners, a pet liner for the second row, a roof rack, a rear hitch bike carrier, and standard floor mats. The availability of the new air mattress outside of the US has not yet been confirmed.
For those eager to explore car camping options immediately, alternative aftermarket solutions like the innovative trunk sliding camping bed from New Zealand’s Teraglide are already on the market.
