Bridging Communities: New Event Unites Agriculture and Biking in Routt County on June 23

by Alice

A new event scheduled for June 23 in Routt County aims to bridge the gap between the biking and agricultural communities by offering a unique experience that combines a gravel bike ride with a tour of a local farm and a farm-to-table meal.

Organized by Corey Piscopo, owner of Ride Workshop, a bicycle outfitter, the event will feature a tour of Hayden Fresh Farm. Piscopo, who has a farming background himself, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Hayden Fresh Farm to offer local riders an opportunity to learn about farming while enjoying the scenic routes of rural Routt County.

“We’re just trying to pair a really cool experience of the food and farm component with exploring some of the terrain and land around their farm,” Piscopo remarked.

The event will offer two course options on rural roads, both starting and finishing at Hayden Fresh Farm. Emphasizing a non-competitive atmosphere, the ride encourages participants to appreciate the landscape and agricultural practices along the way.

Piscopo highlighted that this isn’t just a typical bike event but rather “a farm event that has a cool bike component,” underscoring the focus on connecting participants with the agricultural community.

During the ride, Ride Workshop will provide on-route support, while Michelle and Colby Townsend, owners of Hayden Fresh Farm, will share insights into their locally owned operation known for cage-free chickens and grass-fed livestock.

The event culminates in a farm-to-table meal prepared by chef Chereen Leong Schwarz of Wilderbean Provisions, featuring Hayden Fresh Farm’s local pork products alongside cheese and charcuterie. Yampa Valley Brewing will provide beverages to complement the meal.

With a cap of 50 participants, organizers aim to maintain an intimate setting that minimizes impact on local roadways. The cost to participate is $200 per rider.

Piscopo expressed hopes that the event will foster positive connections between the ranching and biking communities, offering a refreshing perspective amidst recent negative headlines.
