City officials are embarking on a comprehensive endeavor to shape the future of outdoor sports facilities, and they’re turning to residents for input.
The initiative revolves around an online survey and a series of pop-up events slated to take place shortly.
The city’s website underscores the significance of community involvement in the process, stating, “Whether you are a regular user of our current facilities or have yet to utilize them, your input is vital in discerning the needs and preferences of our community regarding outdoor sports.”
“We’ll leverage your feedback, in conjunction with insights from user groups, partners, and community organizations, to initiate the development of a preliminary plan.”
This plan, slated for presentation to the city council for deliberation next year, aims to pinpoint areas where enhanced or different sports fields and courts may be required, with a nod to new, emerging, or international sports.
Moreover, it will scrutinize the locations and methodologies concerning the construction, reservation, and upkeep of outdoor sports facilities.
Residents can actively contribute to this plan by participating in an ongoing online survey, available until June 30.
Furthermore, a series of pop-up events are scheduled as follows:
- May 27 (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) at Margaret Greene Park
- June 1 (12:30 p.m. until the conclusion of the game) during the Guelph Royals game at Hastings Stadium
- June 3 (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) at Norm Jary Park
- June 7-9 (all through the weekend event) during the Multicultural Festival
- June 17 (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) at Eastview Park
- June 23 (1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.) during the Guelph United FC Men and Women games at Centennial Bowl.
Additional opportunities for public engagement are anticipated as the plan unfolds.
