A tragic incident unfolded at Mandvi Beach in Kutch district as a 48-year-old tourist from Jharkhand lost his life in a parasailing accident involving a jeep. The victim, identified as Baldev Singh, hailing from Jamshedpur, was visiting the beach with his family when the mishap occurred on Friday.
Reports from authorities reveal that Singh had opted to experience jeep parasailing, a service provided by Shiv Water Sports, a private company operating in the area. However, the adventure turned fatal due to alleged negligence on the part of the company. Singh’s wife, in her complaint, asserted that the agency failed to provide proper safety equipment, and the jeep to which the parasailer’s rope was tethered was driven recklessly.
During the ill-fated activity, Singh fell from a considerable height and was subsequently dragged by the speeding jeep for a distance. Both the driver and the helper fled the scene following the incident. Singh was promptly taken to a government hospital in Mandvi and later referred to a facility in Bhuj. Despite efforts to save him, medical professionals declared him deceased upon arrival.
In response to the tragedy, law enforcement authorities swiftly took action, apprehending two individuals associated with the water sports company. Pankaj Bhanushali, the owner of the company, along with another individual, was arrested on Saturday. They face charges under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to culpable homicide, among other relevant provisions.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of adhering to safety protocols and regulations, particularly in recreational activities involving potential risks. Investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities seek to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the tragic loss of life.
