New Delhi, April 26, 2024 – SJVN and THDC India Limited have entered into a partnership to develop a state-of-the-art High-Performance Water Sports Academy in Tehri, Uttarakhand. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on April 26 in the presence of Geeta Kapur, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of SJVN, and Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel) of THDC, at a ceremony held in New Delhi.
Under the terms of the MoU, SJVN will extend financial support of Rs. One Crore to THDC for the establishment of an advanced gymnasium, which will be an integral component of the High-Performance Water Sports Academy. This academy will feature modern Training Centers equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure. The collaborative effort involves SJVN, THDC, ITBP, the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association, and the Olympic Association of Uttarakhand, with the aim of training national-level athletes for both domestic and international competitions in Kayaking & Canoeing.
Geeta Kapur emphasized that the Water Sports Academy will play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing talented individuals in water sports from a young age, ensuring a sustainable pipeline of skilled athletes. The initiative aligns with the flagship program ‘Khelo India’ of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and is expected to have a lasting impact on the youth.
The MoU was formalized by Awadhesh Prasad, General Manager (CSR) of SJVN, and Amardeep, General Manager (CSR) of THDC India Limited, signifying a significant step towards the development of sports infrastructure and talent in Uttarakhand.
This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of both organizations towards promoting excellence in water sports and fostering athletic talent for national and international competitions. The establishment of the High-Performance Water Sports Academy marks a milestone in sports development in Uttarakhand and is poised to make a meaningful contribution to the ‘Khelo India’ initiative.
