The Malaysian national track cycling team faced yet another disappointing outcome during their participation in the 2024 UCI Track Nations Cup held in Milton, Canada. Despite their efforts, the team returned home without any medals to show for their endeavors.
In the men’s sprint event, Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom suffered an early exit during the qualifying round at the Mattamy National Track Cycling Centre after encountering a crash.
The coveted gold medal in this event was clinched by Dutch cyclist Harrie Lavresyen, who narrowly defeated Surinamese rider Jair Tjon En Fa, forcing the latter to settle for the silver medal.
On the women’s front, Malaysian cyclist Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri managed to secure the eighth position in the keirin event. Hailing from Kedah, Nurul Izzah previously navigated through the repechage round and subsequently finished sixth in the second round, thereby earning her a spot in the final race.
The top spot in the keirin event was seized by New Zealand cyclist Ellesse Andrews, leaving Malaysian hopes for a podium finish unfulfilled once again.
