Cycling enthusiasts and adventure seekers are gearing up for an unforgettable experience as the Tanqua Kuru Bicycle Race makes its highly anticipated return from May 23 to May 25, 2025. Set in the stunning Tankwa Karoo region of South Africa, this year’s event promises the same challenging terrains that riders love, along with a series of exciting new additions that will elevate the experience to a whole new level.
The Return of “The Pan”
In response to popular demand, the 2025 race route will feature the return of the iconic stretch across “The Pan.” This expansive, flat landscape provides riders with a surreal and visually striking section that has become a signature part of the race. Jeremy Crowder, the chief organizer, commented on the decision to bring it back: “Our riders asked, and we listened. Bringing back The Pan is our way of honoring the community’s wishes and adding that extra magic to the race.”
Aerial Adventure with Sling
This year’s race will also feature an exciting new partnership with Sling, a company that will offer a select group of participants the chance to experience the Tankwa Karoo from the sky. Through a random selection, lucky riders will take part in aerial flips, giving them a bird’s-eye view of the breathtaking landscape. Andrew Pitman, Co-CEO of Sling, shared his excitement about the collaboration: “Partnering with Tanqua Kuru allows us to merge the thrill of aviation with the passion of cycling, providing participants with a truly unique perspective of South Africa’s beauty.”
