Swiss bike manufacturer BMC has issued a global recall for all Kaius 01 gravel bikes and framesets, citing potential issues with the fork steerer tube that could lead to separation under heavy riding conditions.
Launched in September 2022, the Kaius 01 is a high-performance gravel race bike. On Thursday, BMC sent out an official recall notice to customers, requesting an inspection of affected bikes and frames.
According to BMC, the recall is a precautionary measure after a small number of cases where the fork steerer tubes detached during intensive riding. Although only a few incidents have been reported so far, the company acknowledged that these occurrences do not meet the brand’s stringent safety standards.
The company has asked affected customers to stop riding their Kaius 01 bikes immediately. They are encouraged to visit their local BMC retailer or dealer for an inspection. If a fork replacement is deemed necessary, BMC will replace the affected parts with a more durable version at no additional cost.
BMC’s recall notice assured customers that no other BMC products are involved in the issue and emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering high-performance bicycles to both professional athletes and everyday riders.
The recall impacts several 2023 and 2024 models, including:
- 2023 Kaius 01 ONE
- 2023 Kaius 01 TWO
- 2023 Kaius 01 THREE
- 2024 Kaius 01 LTD
- 2024 Kaius 01 ONE
- 2024 Kaius 01 TWO
- 2024 Kaius 01 THREE
- 2026 Kaius 01 THREE
- 2026 Kaius 01 FRS
BMC has apologized for any inconvenience caused and assured customers that they are working swiftly to resolve the issue. For further inquiries, customers can contact BMC directly through the brand’s contact form or by calling +1 (888) 262-7755 in the U.S. or +41 32 654 14 54 internationally.
