2025 Big Ride Challenge: Monthly Goals

by Alice

Each month, participants in the Big Ride Challenge are given two new challenges designed to keep them motivated throughout the year. These tasks are aimed at building consistency and encouraging riders to push their limits, regardless of their annual distance goal.

On the first day of every month, riders are presented with two new challenges that are tailored to the season and their fitness levels at that time. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just getting started, these challenges are designed to be achievable with regular riding. Many of the goals can be completed on indoor trainers or outdoors, depending on weather conditions.

CW Mini: 500 Miles Target

This challenge is for riders aiming to cover 500 miles over the course of the year. The two tasks for January are:

Join a Group Ride: Whether you ride with a local cycling club, a group of friends, or participate in a virtual ride through platforms like MyWhoosh or Zwift, exercising with others boosts both enjoyment and commitment.

Exercise Ten Times This Month: This challenge is about consistency in fitness, encouraging riders to complete a variety of exercises throughout the month. From cycling and running to gym sessions or yoga, the goal is to incorporate different forms of activity to stay engaged and fit.

CW Midi: 1,000 Miles Target

For those aiming for 1,000 miles in 2025, January’s challenges are:

Join a Group Ride: As with the Mini challenge, participating in group rides is key to maintaining motivation. Riders can join a physical group or take part in virtual events on cycling platforms.

Ride Three Times in One Week: The challenge here is to establish a consistent riding habit by completing three rides in a single week. There’s no minimum distance requirement, and indoor miles are also accepted.

CW Maxi: 2,500 Miles Target

Riders signing up for the Maxi challenge are targeting a 2,500-mile year. Their January tasks are:

Join a Group Ride: Engaging with others in group rides helps improve social connections and accountability.

Complete a 30-Mile Ride: While 30 miles may seem manageable during warmer months, it presents a more significant challenge in the cold, wintry conditions of January. Riders are encouraged to layer up and fuel properly for longer rides, especially during the colder months. Indoor miles are allowed for this challenge as well.

CW5000: 5,000 Miles Target

The CW5000 remains the most popular challenge, with participants aiming for a total of 5,000 miles by the year’s end. January’s goals are:

Join a Group Ride: Whether physical or virtual, group rides continue to be a core part of the Big Ride Challenge community.

Complete a 50-Mile Ride: A 50-mile ride is a significant milestone, especially in the colder January weather. Riders are encouraged to monitor weather forecasts, dress appropriately, and carry extra food for fuel. The challenge remains flexible, with indoor miles counted towards the total.

Staying on Track The monthly challenges are updated on the first of each month, offering riders new goals to work toward. Additionally, participants can join the Big Ride Challenge WhatsApp group to stay informed and share progress with fellow riders.

These challenges are designed to build motivation and help cyclists of all levels maintain their fitness throughout the year. Whether you’re aiming for 500 miles or 5,000 miles, there’s a goal for everyone.
