A Pennsylvania state police officer has died following a stabbing incident along a public cycling trail in Moon Township, according to local authorities.
The Allegheny County Police Department reported receiving an alert about an injured male near the Montour Trail just before 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a 44-year-old man suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities have since charged 25-year-old Anthony Quesen of Pittsburgh with the officer’s murder. Quesen is currently held at the Allegheny County Jail, pending arraignment.
State police identified the victim as Liquor Enforcement Officer Benjamin Brallier. In a statement, Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris expressed the department’s sorrow, saying, “The Pennsylvania State Police is heartbroken to confirm the tragic loss of one of our own, dedicated Liquor Enforcement Officer Benjamin Brallier, who was fatally stabbed while off-duty yesterday. With over 20 years of service, he was an exemplary officer and a devoted father and husband.”
In response to this tragedy, the Montour School District cheer team has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support the Brallier family during this difficult time. As of Tuesday afternoon, the fundraiser has raised over $13,000. Another initiative aimed at providing meals for the family has garnered more than $2,800 in contributions.
