Abandoned Bikes at Royal Bournemouth Hospital Donated to Charity

by Alice

Nineteen bicycles left unclaimed at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital for over a year are set to be refurbished and donated to local organizations. The bikes will be sent to the New Forest Bike Project (NFBP), a charity based in New Milton, Hampshire, known for revitalizing unwanted bicycles.

Volunteers at the NFBP will restore the bikes, which will then be distributed to schools, police departments, and other charitable organizations. The charity either offers the refurbished bikes at no cost or requests a donation to help cover their expenses.

A spokesperson for the NFBP emphasized their commitment to promoting safe cycling and sustainability, stating, “We want to help people stay on the road, ride safely, and encourage sustainability.

Alison Walters, administrator of the travel team at University Hospitals Dorset, highlighted the initiative’s benefits, noting that it would create more space for bicycles belonging to hospital staff. “Many of our staff travel on bikes, so finding a new home for these abandoned ones means we have more space available for new cyclists to adopt sustainable travel,” she said.
