The organizing committee of the Utsunomiya Japan Cup Cycle Road Race has announced that the 2024 event, titled “Subaru Levorg presents the 2024 Utsunomiya Japan Cup Cycle Road Race,” will take place over three days from Friday, October 18, to Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Utsunomiya, Japan’s cycling capital. Recognized as the highest-ranked one-day road race in Asia and the only UCI ProSeries event in Japan, this year’s race will feature an updated title that includes “Utsunomiya.” Cyclists from around the globe are expected to gather in Utsunomiya, fueling excitement for the event, which will also be streamed online.
Participants and Teams
A total of seven UCI WorldTeams, the highest category in professional cycling, will compete in the race: Team Jayco AlUla (Australia), Astana Qazaqstan Team (Kazakhstan), Team Bahrain Victorious (Bahrain), Cofidis (France), EF Education-EasyPost (USA), Lidl-Trek (USA), and Soudal Quick-Step (Belgium). Notable competitors include Simon Philip Yates from Team Jayco AlUla, who has achieved multiple stage victories and high overall rankings, and former world champion Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trek.
The race will also showcase Gleb Brussenskiy of Astana Qazaqstan, who will wear the Asian champion’s jersey, Neilson Powless from EF Education-EasyPost, the 2022 Japan Cup winner, and Japanese star Yukiya Arashiro from Team Bahrain Victorious. Additionally, several UCI ProTeams, including Israel – Premier Tech (Israel), Lotto Dstny (Belgium), and Team Novo Nordisk (USA), will participate in the competition.
