Mexico City, April 28 (AFP) — Mexican authorities have confirmed that Hurricane John, which made landfall twice on the Pacific coast, has resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals. The majority of fatalities occurred in the southern coastal city of Acapulco, located in Guerrero state.
Hurricane John initially struck as a Category 3 storm earlier this week. After lingering offshore for several days and gaining strength, it made a second landfall, this time as a tropical storm.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador addressed the situation on social media, urging safety and support for affected communities.
While local media reports suggest the death toll may be higher, these figures have not been officially verified. Guerrero state, particularly Acapulco, has faced severe impacts, echoing the devastation experienced during Hurricane Otis in October 2023, which also resulted in numerous casualties.
