TORONTO – Daulton Varsho, the star outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays, has been moved to the 60-day injured list following surgery on his right shoulder, which he underwent on Monday.
This season, Varsho has struggled at the plate, batting .214 with 18 home runs and 58 runs batted in, while maintaining a .293 on-base percentage. Notably, he is recognized for his defensive skills, having committed just two errors in 1,085 1/3 innings across all three outfield positions.
In other roster news, infielder prospect Orelvis Martinez has been reinstated from the suspended list. Martinez faced an 80-game ban from Major League Baseball after testing positive for a prohibited substance. He has been optioned to the Blue Jays’ spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida.
Martinez, who is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the Blue Jays’ minor league system, was suspended on June 23, just one day after making his major league debut.
Additionally, the Blue Jays recalled left-handed pitcher Easton Lucas from Triple-A Buffalo and optioned right-handed pitcher Zach Pop from Brampton, Ontario, to the team’s spring training complex in Dunedin, Florida.
