The World Surf League (WSL) has revealed the nominees for the 2024 Big Wave Challenge’s Women’s Ride of the Year, showcasing remarkable performances by female surfers in some of the world’s most challenging conditions. Australian Laura Enever and San Francisco’s Bianca Valenti are among the standout nominees, demonstrating the evolution of women’s big-wave surfing.

Notable moments included Caity Simmers’ victory at Pipeline and local Tahitian Vahine Fierro’s impressive wildcard win at Teahupo’o. Notably, she returned to Shipstern Bluff after a five-season hiatus, where she tackled a formidable Tasmanian tube. Additionally, she ventured into the notoriously challenging waves of Teahupo’o, successfully letting go of the tow rope to ride a steep barrel.

Bianca Valenti also made her mark, expertly navigating the powerful beachbreak at Puerto Escondido. Committed to her craft, Valenti has dedicated her winters to mastering the waves at Mavericks. This year, she adopted a refreshed training regimen and meditative approach, which she credits for her current peak performance. After a lengthy wait, she seized the moment, riding a stunning righthander that showcased her skill and determination.

The winner of the Ride of the Year will be announced at the SURFER Big Wave Challenge award show in Nazaré on October 19, with the event set to be streamed online. Fans eagerly await to see which talented female surfer will take home this prestigious honor.
